A Quick Look at My Phone

A Quick Look at My Phone

Ohhh, I absolutely hate myself if I look at my phone for more than 20 seconds in front of my kids! I mean, what am I teaching them in that moment?! This stupid thing is more important than you and anything else in the world, that’s what. You know, you think about it, after they start school and you add up all the hours they are away from you, well, you just don’t really get much time with them. And then the wind blows, distracts you for a moment, and you turn back around to find they are grown and leaving for good.

Anyway, this one pager represents the realization I have come to that I will not let myself be one of those parents who looks back 20 years from now and wishes they had spent more time with their kids and less time on their phone.

Alright, off my soapbox. Thank you for stopping by and checking out my comics. If you want to help me make more and have a laugh, you can purchase my comedy album here. Or send a contribution to paypal.me/coryjarviscomedian. Thank you and may the force be with you, always.

Cory Makes Movies Right: The Pitch

Cory Makes Movies Right: The Pitch

Who doesn’t love James Cameron? Oh, wait. This is the internet. Don’t ask something like that.

So about the title. Cory Makes Movies Right was a video series I created a long while back that is something of a cross between Tosh.O meets movie reviews. I shot the whole thing in front of a live audience and tried to make it as funny as possible. Check back later for it.

The Buyers of the Post-Pandemic Housing Market

The Buyers of the Post-Pandemic Housing Market

Oh man, it is brutal out there. I don’t know what open-houses were like before the pandemic, but they are not fun now. These events are permeated by anxiety, sadness, and more than a few back-off-I found-it-first looks. It is all understandable, too. You grow up in America with the expectation that someday you’ll buy your own house. It’s a given, right?! And then we get speculators, corporate owners, boomers — it’s all in the comic, so I’ll let the work speak for itself. To those of you still looking though, I feel your pain and wish you luck (and lower rates).

This one is kind of a continuation of an earlier one-pager I did right when Covid was setting in called People of the Pandemic.

As always, thanks for visiting! Please do spread word of my site. It helps me make more comics.

A Difficult Hard Dilemma

A Difficult Hard Dilemma

Okay, so not all the sketches turn out exactly the way I hoped. In this case, I probably needed at least a couple more panels to show that I was taking a test but couldn’t focus because I was distracted by things in the room. I’m not sure that comes across clearly here, and the fact that I am writing this so you understand is a failure in and of itself in my writing. To be honest though, that is the price I must pay in order to produce work and not sit on it forever trying to make it “perfect.” I prefer to get lots of work done despite knowing I’ll be unhappy with a few things I’ve produced rather than produce very little with the hope that that one thing I have been reworking and reworking is going to be great. Way less disappointment for me with my approach and a lot more work produced.

In any case, to my fellow humans out there who don’t have a brain with dueling thought processes, hopefully this helps you understand those who do.

As always, if you enjoyed this, please hit the thumbs up button and share a link to my webpage with someone you know who might like it. Thank you!

A Very Honest King

April 30, 2024

A Very Honest King

Any movie dealing with royalty in a positive light bothers me. You know, the story ends with the woman finding out she is a princess or she finally marries her Prince Charming, and she lives happily ever after. Cool. But what about all the peasants? Not really a happy ending if you think of them. Yeah, Belle found her prince and is now getting nightly foot massages and maxing out her vitamin intake with healthy and abundant food sources, but as the credits roll her old neighbors are still starving and ailing from untreated maladies.

The worst are the movie scenes that feature a the run-up to a huge battle. I have the good fortune to be born in a time where I don’t have to fight for a king, but man, there isn’t much a guy could say that would convince me to run into a crowd of angry, crazed dudes who want to disembowel me, and do it all just so Mr. Fancypants can go back and sit on his thrown and live out his good life. Just once, I would like to see one of those movie scenes play out more true to history. So here is my take on that. I give you, A Very Honest King.

Keep coming back. More comics to come. And do forward some of these to friends. It helps me make more.

Woke Ally Returns

April 16, 2024

Woke Ally Returns

Donโ€™t get me wrong. Iโ€™m not against changing a townโ€™s name when the situation calls for it. I mean, if you live in HitlerVille or Shcittypeople Place, then by all means, do change it. I guess for me, it is more about the people who are calling for the change โ€” out of nowhere, when no one else wanted or asked for it. I find their motivations suspect. And so, inspired by these so-called do-gooders, I give you Woke Ally Returns. If you havenโ€™t read the first Woke Ally one-pager, check it out here: http://www.coryjarvis.com/comics/woke-ally/.ย

Oh, and yeah, I havenโ€™t posted in a looong while, but I am back, baby! Check back soon. More comics to come.

The Misadventures of Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars is a great musician, but he might need a dating coach.

Can you tell I’m inside listening to music a lot? It is seeping into my writing.ย If you haven’t heard the Bruno Mars song that inspired this comic, click this sentence to check it out.

Way Behind the Music: It Wasn’t Me

We all liked the song, but its feasibility has haunted me ever since. This is the only way I see it happening.

I hope everyone is healthy!
